What happens when you have two, outstanding watercolorists come together in an exhibition of their works – “An Explosion of Color”. That is the title of the upcoming Commissioners Choice Exhibit at the Lone Tree Arts Center. Vibrant paintings brighten the mood and feel of winter, imparting its energy to those who view them.
Featuring the artworks of Cindy Welch and Diane Cornish, this exhibition of “Explosion of Color” opens, Friday, January 8, and runs through March 5, 2016. The Lone Tree Arts Center’s Meet the Artists Reception will be held Friday, January 22, 6-7 pm. when both artists will be in attendance to meet and visit with the public.
The Lone Tree Public Art Committee has chosen two Castle Rock artists this year for the annual Commissioners Choice Award. Each artist must meet established criteria to be considered. Once chosen by the Committee and approved by the City of Lone Tree Town Council, their work is scheduled for an opening exhibit. The paintings will be displayed and available for sale to the public at the Lone Tree Arts Center. Note cards will also be available for purchase.
Comments from the Artists:
Cindy Welch – “It is exciting and a true honor to be selected for the Commissioner’s Choice Exhibit at the Lone Tree Art Center. The Art Center is so beautiful and is a wonderful showcase for artists. I’m thrilled to have 4 new releases that have never been seen publicly before this event, including a painting of the Lone Tree Art Center itself. The architecture is very unique and features a lot of glass. My concept was to tie in the artistic aspect by using vibrant color in the window reflections. The Rocky Mountains provide a perfect back drop for the modern, angular building. The other 3 new paintings are entitled “Cascading River”, “Maroon Bells” and a still life called “Facets of Glass” which is a totally new subject for me.”
Diane Cornish – “It is an honor to be chosen by the Public Art Committee to display my work in starting off the 2016 season. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. Although I enjoy painting a variety of subject matter: landscapes, animals and people, I like a challenge by using my imagination, capturing a mood through vivid colors, arranging a combination of shapes and reinventing a composition. It is especially gratifying to be able to share my passion for painting with the public.
